The activity level for the “Mexico City & Valle De Bravo 2025” trip is designed to be 55+ age-appropriate. The itinerary includes a mix of moderate physical activities such as walking tours, hiking to waterfalls, and horseback riding through butterfly sanctuaries. There is also some high-altitude travel, especially in the Central Highlands. Participants should be comfortable with these activities, but there are plenty of opportunities to rest and enjoy the cultural and historical experiences at a relaxed pace.

Day One: Welcome to Mexico City a place like no other!
After landing at Mexico City International Airport, you’ll transfer to the charming Zocalo Central Hotel, perfectly located next to the National Cathedral with breathtaking views of the Zocalo plaza. As the sun sets, head to the Balcon del Zocalo, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, for a dinner with a view that will leave you in awe. The vibrant energy of the city will have you excited for the adventures ahead!

After checking into the luxurious Avándaro Resort, enjoy some leisure time exploring the town’s quaint streets or simply relax by the lake.

The afternoon is yours to explore Mexico City according to the group’s preferences—whether that’s shopping, visiting additional cultural sites, or simply soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. In the evening, we’ll come together for a special farewell dinner, celebrating the unforgettable experiences we’ve shared.

How physically active is this trip?
The physical requirements of this trip as “moderate” because visiting the monarch butterfly sanctuaries requires walking at altitudes up to 10,660 feet with stairs. We will also ride small horses from the Mexican highlands. We travel on horseback through the forest to reach the butterflies, traversing the last portion of the trek on foot. Because of the horse’s small stature, the maximum weight each horse can carry is 260 pounds. For those who prefer to refrain from horseback riding, walks to the monarch’s roosting sites are offered.
Are there any restrictions for this trip?
You must have a vaild passport. Weight restrictions for the horseback ride & hot air balloon ride are 260 lbs. You can choose allternatives for those activities if you are over the stated weight limit.
What are the accommodations like?
Mexico City: The Zocalo Central Hotel – is located right next to the National Cathedral, this hotel in downtown Mexico City overlooks the famous Zocalo plaza.
Valle De Bravo: Avandaro Resort – The 5 Star vacation resort of Avandaro, which means “dream place” in the Tarascan Indian language. Set on a lush hillside overlooking the valley, the hotel offers a relaxing setting in which to enjoy the fresh air and panoramic views from your casita.
What should I pack for the trip?
It’s recommended to bring layered clothing as temperatures can fluctuate in Mexico, especially in the mountainous areas. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a rain jacket, and a camera are also highly recommended. For the butterfly sanctuaries, light-colored clothing is advised as it attracts fewer butterflies (they can overwhelm dark clothing).
Is it safe to travel to Mexico right now?
Safety is our top priority. We monitor travel advisories closely and will adjust our itinerary if necessary. As of now, the areas we visit on this trip are considered safe for travel.
What type of transport will we be using?
We will be transported in a 15 passenger van. There are times that we are in the vehicle for 2 hours one way with bathroom stops.
