Don’t just tour Skagit Valley, Experience Skagit Valley
Every Beatrice Bradley trip is crafted to maximize the experiences had during the trip.
The itineraries are specially made to allow time for engaging in conversation and having belly laughs with a new friend. We hope that the activities and experiences may allow you to come out of your comfort zone and to try new or unique things.
These trips are made to replicate a ‘friends get-away trip’.
Day One: Welcome to Tulip Country
Your Pacific Northwest adventure begins the moment you land. Your Beatrice Bradley hosts will be waiting at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, sign in hand, ready to take it from here.
From the airport, we head north — and the drive itself is worth savoring. The city gives way to wide-open farmland, braided waterways, and the kind of horizon that makes you exhale. Welcome to Skagit Valley.
By late afternoon, you’ll roll into La Conner — a historic waterfront town tucked along the Swinomish Channel that earns every bit of its reputation. The boardwalks, the galleries, the unhurried rhythm of a town that genuinely has its act together. You’ll check into The Channel Inn, a waterside property that puts you right where you want to be.
Settle in, take a stroll along the marina, and let the Pacific Northwest do its thing. The evening brings the group together for a welcome dinner — the first of many great meals, and the beginning of friendships that tend to outlast the trip itself.
Highlights
- Your hosts are waiting at the gate — no hunting for rides, no figuring it out alone. Your trip starts the moment you arrive.
- A scenic drive north through working farmland, open water, and mountain views — a perfect introduction to what this region does best.
- La Conner is the kind of town that surprises you. Galleries, boutique shops, and a waterfront that rewards a slow walk.
- The Channel Inn sits right on the Swinomish Channel — comfortable, well-situated, and exactly the right place to land.
- A welcome dinner that brings the group together and sets the tone for everything ahead.
Fun Fact: La Conner has been an artists’ haven since the 1940s — painters, writers, and photographers have been drawn here for decades by the light, the water, and the quiet. It shows.
Day Two: On the Water — Swinomish Channel & Deception Pass
Some days just deliver. This is one of them.
We board our cruise vessel right in La Conner and push off into the Swinomish Channel — a working waterway that moves at its own pace, lined with marinas, coastal homes, and open views that stretch toward the islands. The further north we travel, the more the landscape shifts. Quiet channel gives way to rugged shoreline, forested cliffs, and the powerful tidal currents that have made Deception Pass one of the most dramatic stretches of water in the Pacific Northwest.
The moment everyone talks about comes as we pass beneath the Deception Pass Bridge — 180 feet overhead, spanning two islands, carrying 20,000 cars a day above water that doesn’t sit still. Seeing it from below is something else entirely.
Keep your eyes on the water throughout. Seals, sea lions, porpoises, bald eagles — wildlife sightings are common and never get old. A narrated cruise gives you the history and ecology of the area as it unfolds around you.
Lunch is served onboard — fresh local crab, classic Pacific Northwest flavors, and nothing but open water in every direction. Unhurried, scenic, and exactly right.
Back in La Conner by afternoon, the pace slows down in the best way. Wander the shops, walk the marina, or simply sit with a view before the group comes together again for dinner.
Highlights
- Pass beneath the Deception Pass Bridge by boat — 180 feet of history and engineering overhead, swirling water below. Few people experience it from this angle.
- Wildlife on the water — seals, sea lions, porpoises, bald eagles, and more in their natural habitat.
- Fresh Northwest lunch onboard — local crab, coastal flavors, and panoramic channel views without leaving your seat.
- A narrated cruise that brings the history and ecosystem of this remarkable stretch of coastline to life.
- A relaxed afternoon back in La Conner — shops, marina strolls, and a group dinner to close out a standout day.
Fun Fact: The Deception Pass Bridge was completed in 1935 and connects three landmasses — Fidalgo Island, Pass Island, and Whidbey Island. At 180 feet above the water, it remains one of the most photographed bridges in Washington State.
Day Three: In Full Bloom — The Tulip Farms of Skagit Valley
This is the day the whole trip is built around.
Skagit Valley’s tulip season is one of the most spectacular natural displays in the country — and today you’re in the middle of it. We visit three of the valley’s most celebrated farms: Tulip Town, Roozengaarde, and Skagit Valley Tulips. Each one has its own character, its own palette, and its own way of stopping you in your tracks. Rows of color stretch toward the mountains, the air carries something you can’t quite name, and every direction you turn is worth a photograph.
These aren’t rushed walk-throughs. You’ll have time to wander, take it in, and appreciate what it actually takes to produce something this extraordinary. The Dutch farming families who built this valley knew exactly what they were doing.
Lunch is served in the valley — a meal surrounded by the very thing you came to see.
The afternoon takes us into downtown Mount Vernon, a genuine small-town riverfront that holds its own. Galleries, local shops, good coffee, and the kind of unhurried main street that’s increasingly rare. Browse, explore, and take your time.
The group comes back together in La Conner for dinner — and by this point in the trip, the table conversation tends to get pretty good.
Highlights
- Private tours of Tulip Town, Roozengaarde, and Skagit Valley Tulips — three of the most iconic farms in the valley, each worth the visit on its own.
- Lunch in the valley, with tulip fields as your backdrop and no reason to rush.
- Downtown Mount Vernon — riverfront charm, local galleries, independent shops, and a pace that suits the day perfectly.
- A group dinner back in La Conner to close out the best day of tulip season you’ve ever had.
Fun Fact: Tulip Town was established in 1984 by Dutch immigrant families who brought their horticultural traditions from the Netherlands — a country that knows a thing or two about tulips. Today it draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each April and remains one of the premier floral destinations in the United States.
Day Four: Island Day — San Juan by Scoot Coupe
Today we trade the tulip fields for open water and island roads.
A ferry ride takes us to San Juan Island — one of the crown jewels of the Pacific Northwest and a place that rewards exploration in every direction. The best way to do it? A Scoot Coupe. These two-seater electric vehicles are easy to drive, impossible not to enjoy, and perfectly sized for winding island roads. No buses, no fixed routes — just the open road, salt air, and whatever’s around the next bend.
San Juan packs a surprising amount into a relatively small island. Whale watching cliffs, lavender fields, working lighthouses, sculpture parks, alpaca farms, and one of the most charming harbor towns in Washington. You won’t see all of it — but you’ll see the best of it.
The day wraps with dinner overlooking the Swinomish Channel — a fitting close to a day spent almost entirely outdoors.
Highlights
- Scoot Coupes through the island’s best scenery — coastal roads, open views, and the freedom to stop wherever looks good.
- Real wildlife in real habitat — orcas, seals, sea lions, and bald eagles are all part of a normal day out here.
- Friday Harbor for lunch, browsing, and a dose of genuine island-town charm.
- A dinner with a view to close out one of the best days of the trip.
San Juan Island Scoot Coupe Route
Eight stops that cover the best the island has to offer:
1. Friday Harbor — The island’s main town and your starting point. Waterfront shops, good coffee, local galleries, and the kind of harbor view that sets the tone immediately.
2. San Juan Island National Historical Park (American Camp) — Meadows, beaches, and wooded trails with a fascinating backstory. The park looks out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca toward the distant Olympic Mountains — one of the better views on the island.
3. Cattle Point Lighthouse — A working lighthouse perched above open seascape. The views here are wide, quiet, and worth every minute of the drive.
4. Pelindaba Lavender Farm — Fields of lavender in full bloom, an excellent farm store, and the kind of quiet that reminds you why you travel. A genuine sensory experience.
5. Roche Harbor — A historic resort village with manicured gardens, a beautiful marina, and architecture that feels like it belongs in another era. Worth a slow wander.
6. San Juan Island Sculpture Park — Over 150 sculptures spread across 20 acres of open land. Unexpected, impressive, and genuinely worth the stop.
7. Lime Kiln Point State Park — Known locally as Whale Watch Park, and for good reason. The rocky shoreline here is one of the best land-based orca viewing spots in the world. The historic Lime Kiln Lighthouse doubles as an active whale research station.
8. Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm — Meet the alpacas, browse the wool products in the country store, and feed a few animals that have absolutely no idea how charming they are.
Fun Fact: San Juan Island was the site of the “Pig War” of 1859 — a bloodless boundary dispute between the United States and Britain that was triggered by a single pig and resolved without a single shot fired. The National Historical Park preserves both the American and British camps from that standoff.
Day Five: Until Next Time — Departure Day
Every great trip has to end somewhere. This one ends the right way.
The morning starts with a farewell breakfast at the hotel — the last meal together, which always seems to go longer than planned. That’s a good sign. By this point in the trip, the table sounds nothing like it did on Day One, and that’s exactly the point.
After breakfast, La Conner gets one last hour of your attention. Pick up something from a local gallery, take a final walk along the channel, or simply sit with a coffee and let the Pacific Northwest make its case one more time.
Then we load up and head south — a scenic drive back to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, where your hosts will see you off at the curb the same way they met you: ready, organized, and genuinely glad you came.
Safe travels. We hope to see you on the next one.
Highlights
- A farewell breakfast that runs a little long because nobody’s quite ready to leave — that’s how you know it was a good trip.
- One final morning in La Conner — a last walk along the Swinomish Channel, a few local finds, and a proper goodbye to a town that earned it.
- A scenic drive back to Sea-Tac with your hosts handling every detail of the send-off.
Fun Fact: The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival draws over a million visitors each April — making it one of the largest festivals in the Pacific Northwest. You didn’t just visit during peak season. You experienced it the right way.
This itinerary serves as a general guide. The final version will be provided approximately two weeks prior to departure and may be adjusted to include accommodations, tours, or restaurants of comparable quality to ensure the best possible experience.
