Add that to year-round sunshine and mild temperatures, and you have a California coastal city with some of the best beaches in the world. With 70 miles along the Pacific Ocean, San Diego (California’s second largest city) is divided into six beach regions including Coronado, La Jolla, Mission Bay and Beaches, North County Coastal, South Bay and Point Loma, Harbor Island and Shelter Island.

Day One: Arrival Day and Welcome Dinner and a Dip in the Pool – Kona Kai Resort and Spa

The History of Shelter Island, San Diego

Originally a sandbar that was visible at low tide, Shelter Island wasn’t even accessible from mainland San Diego until 1953. Soil and sand from the San Diego River and World War II dredging materials transformed it into a landmark. In the early 1950s, the city and harbor developed the island, dredging a yacht basin, creating a deep water channel into the bay, raising the land above high tide, and adding a causeway to connect it to Point Loma.

Day Two: Sunset Cliffs and La Jolla Seals, Shopping and Fabulous Mexican Food

The adventure continues with a day filled with breathtaking natural beauty and vibrant local culture. The early risers start with a serene coffee island walk followed by a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. The group then heads to Sunset Cliffs for a nature exploration, where cliffs overlook the Pacific Ocean, and lucky observers might spot gray whales or cliff divers.
