A Soul-Stirring River Journey Just for Women
7 Days / 6 Nights of Laughter, Luxury Camps, and Whitewater Wonder
Overall Trip Highlights
- No Experience Required: Most women on this river have never rafted and never spent a night in a tent. That is the normal starting point here, not the exception.
- You Are Taught Everything: Before the boats leave the bank your guides show you how to sit, how to hold a paddle, how to stroke together, and how to say you would like a break. Nobody is expected to arrive knowing any of it.
- Scenery That Changes Every Day: Five days of canyon walls rising straight out of the water — green shoulders, pale granite, black basalt, and the deep blue-black rock of the narrowest gorge on the river. It is different country every morning.
- You Choose Your Boat Each Morning: Paddle if you feel like working, or settle into a boat your guide rows and let the canyon come to you. Women switch back and forth all week and nobody keeps score.
- Camping on a Sand Beach: Not a clearing in the woods — a wide warm beach of fine white sand, among the largest inland beaches in the country, in a canyon no road reaches.
- Your Tent Is Already Standing: It is up when you step off the boat, with your bag waiting at the door. Someone else takes it down after you walk away in the morning.
- All the Gear, Provided: Watertight dry bags, life vests, tents, sleeping pads, inflatable kayaks and paddleboards. You bring clothes and a sense of humor.
- Warm Water and Long Afternoons: The Lower Salmon runs warm and clear through July. Afternoons are for swimming, shade, beach games, and sitting in six inches of river doing nothing at all.
- Kayaks: Out on the gentle water, with a guide beside you. The women who say absolutely not on Tuesday are the ones out there on Friday.
- Food Nobody Expects Out Here: Fresh breakfasts, riverside lunches laid out on a table in the sand, hors d’oeuvres before dinner, and Dutch-oven dessert baked over coals after dark.
- The Bonfire: The thing nobody puts on a list like this, and the thing every woman talks about when she gets home.
- Sleeping Out Under the Stars: Tarps go down in front of the tents for anyone who wants them. No towns, no headlights, no light of any kind — more stars than most women have ever seen at once.
- Friendships That Form in Two Days: No phones, no distractions, nowhere else to be. Women who met on Monday are finishing each other’s sentences by Wednesday, and still texting a year later.
- Wildlife on the Water: Golden eagles and ospreys off the rim, river otters in the pools, mule deer at the shoreline, and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep on the grass slopes above the Snake.

In their own words
At 82 I found out I can do anything! I met all kinds of women. At first no one knew each other, but at the end you thought of everyone as a friend. Great fun! I encourage all my friends to give BB a try. They will not be sorry. It will build their confidence in traveling alone, and many new friends will be made.
It proved that I can accept a challenge and still come out the winner at 77 years young! Away from the constant barrage of news, I found an inner peace about the world, reinforced by sleeping under the stars. The amazing rafting guides were a joy to be around. Their teamwork was amazing.
First time ever of any kind of camping, and so glad I stepped beyond my boundaries. Go for it! It’s only a week, and because we were so isolated, we quickly became friends with everyone. The Hells Canyon rafting team was superb: friendly, great teamwork, and never condescending to a group of senior ladies.
