Northern Ireland’s Secret Charm

Northern Ireland unfolds as a land of rugged cliffs, rolling green hills, and a spirit that warms the heart. Known for its stunning landscapes and deep-rooted history, this corner of the world brims with wonders that captivate and comfort in equal measure.
History echoes through Derry’s ancient walls, where a guided tour reveals tales carved into the stone of this vibrant city. The journey begins north from Dublin, heading toward the wild coast. The Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge sways high above the ocean, a thrilling link to the past once crossed by salmon fishermen. Nearby, the Giant’s Causeway stands as a UNESCO treasure—hexagonal stone columns shaped by ancient volcanic forces, a natural masterpiece that inspires awe.
At Glenshane Sheep Farm, a local shepherd tends his flock with timeless skill. Sharp-witted dogs herd the sheep, and an ewe is shorn by hand, offering a window into the north’s pastoral traditions. The Dark Hedges follows, its gnarled trees forming a striking tunnel of beauty, famously featured in Game of Thrones. The day ends at Bushmills Irish Whiskey Distillery, the world’s oldest licensed distillery, where a smooth pour of golden whiskey delights the senses.
The trip traces the Wild Atlantic Way’s northern edge, where the sea meets dramatic shores. Dunluce Castle’s medieval ruins cling to the cliffs, gazing out over breathtaking views. A scenic ride down a steep oceanside road unveils a sweep of green and blue landscape. In West Donegal, Slieve League rises with Europe’s highest sea cliffs, their towering calm a sight to linger over. The journey closes at Lough Eske Castle in Donegal, an elegant waterside retreat perfect for unwinding amid the beauty of it all.
Northern Ireland’s secret charm lies in its blend of stunning vistas, cozy traditions, and stories that resonate long after the visit ends.

Past Trip Reviews

Each area we visited, got to taste the food, culture and learn so much about Ireland and how it came to be the place it is today.

This was my first experience traveling alone. I just lost my husband in January and needed to get away. I was researching trips and came across Beatrice Bradley. After lots of Emailing and personal conversations with Debra Shutt, I felt comfortable enough to book my vacation to Northern Ireland and so glad that I did. What an amazing experience with a wonderful group of women. Debra was an amazing hostess with so much experience and compassion. I walked away from this trip with lifelong friends and I will be traveling with this group again. I have a trip to Cuba in March. –Jane

This was my first BB trip, as well as my first international trip. From the moment I expressed interest in the trip, Debra reached out to me and answered all of my questions and concerns. She was so reassuring and encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. I cannot express in words what a wonderful, life-changing experience it was for me. I met so many new friends and have the self-confidence needed to travel again …. and I can’t wait. If you are on the fence about traveling, make the decision to GO. You will not regret it! –Deborah

Don’t choose not to go because you have no one to go with you. The group I traveled in started out as strangers. Strangers no more! I’ve made some friends for life and I can’t imagine missing out on that opportunity, along with seeing the beauty of the places visited. Looking forward to the next trip! –Deanna

Our private guided walking tour takes us along the 17th-century city walls, which have withstood centuries of sieges and conflicts. As we stand at the edge of the island, looking out over the vast Atlantic, we experience the raw, untamed beauty that has drawn explorers, writers, and dreamers to this remote corner of Ireland for generations.

Day Seven: Stepping Back in Time & Gazing Over the Edge of the World

After a restful night at Lough Eske Castle, we begin our day with a satisfying breakfast before setting off to explore the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural beauty of West Donegal.

Our first destination is the Glencolmcille Folk Village, a living museum that offers an immersive look into Ireland’s rural past. Perched on a rugged stretch of coastline, this collection of thatched cottages recreates Irish life from the 18th to the 20th century. As we step inside these carefully restored homes, we gain insight into the daily struggles and triumphs of the families who once lived here. Each cottage tells a story, from traditional crafts to old-fashioned schoolrooms, preserving the enduring spirit of Ireland’s past. After exploring, we gather for a hearty Irish lunch, made with locally sourced ingredients, and browse a selection of handwoven knit goods and artisan crafts, perfect for taking home a piece of Donegal’s heritage.

The afternoon brings a visit to the Slieve League Cliffs, one of Ireland’s most breathtaking natural wonders. These towering sea cliffs rise over 1,900 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, nearly three times the height of the Cliffs of Moher. As we stand at the edge, gazing over the vast expanse of ocean, we can feel the ancient energy of this place—a landscape shaped by time, wind, and sea. The cliffs have long been a place of pilgrimage, and traces of early Christian settlements can still be found in the surrounding hills.

Day Nine: The Road Back to Dublin – Castles, Valleys & A Farewell Feast

Our final full day in Ireland begins with breakfast at Lough Eske Castle, where we soak in the last moments of Donegal’s serene beauty before checking out and embarking on a scenic journey back to Dublin. The road south is more than just a return trip—it’s a passage through Ireland’s rich medieval history, featuring Trim Castle and the legendary Boyne Valley, two of the country’s most treasured sites.

Our first stop is Trim Castle, Ireland’s largest Anglo-Norman castle, standing proudly on the banks of the River Boyne. Built in the late 12th century by Hugh de Lacy, this imposing fortress played a crucial role in Ireland’s medieval history. Its massive stone keep and towering walls provided protection for centuries and, more recently, served as a backdrop in the Hollywood blockbuster Braveheart. We’ll explore the grounds, admiring its well-preserved medieval architecture before continuing our journey.

Driving through the Boyne Valley, we pass through the heart of Ireland’s ancient east, a landscape dotted with Neolithic tombs, monastic ruins, and battlegrounds that have shaped the island’s history for thousands of years. This area was home to the legendary Battle of the Boyne (1690), a turning point in Irish and European history.

Arriving back in Dublin, we check into the Carlton Airport Hotel, a convenient and comfortable place to rest before tomorrow’s departures. But the adventure isn’t over just yet! In the evening, we gather for a Goodbye Dinner at the famous Old Mill Restaurant, located in the heart of Dublin’s historic Temple Bar district. Day Ten: Farewell to Ireland & New Friendships

As the morning light fills Dublin, it’s time to say goodbye to the Emerald Isle and the unforgettable journey we’ve shared. After checking out of the Carlton Airport Hotel, we make our way to Dublin Airport, where our adventure began just days ago. The memories of rugged coastlines, ancient castles, lively dinners, and breathtaking landscapes will stay with us long after we leave.

With final goodbyes, hugs, and promises to stay in touch, we part ways—carrying with us not just souvenirs, but the friendships and experiences that have made this trip truly special.

Highlights:

  • Check Out of the Carlton Airport Hotel: Gather your belongings and prepare for your journey home or onward travels.

  • Airport Transfer to Dublin Airport: Shuttle service ensures an easy and stress-free departure as you head to your flight.

Fun Fact:

Dublin is home to the world’s oldest pub, The Brazen Head, which has been serving pints since 1198—over 800 years of Irish hospitality in the heart of the city!
