Day Two: Into the Glacier Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, we set out for an unforgettable full-day adventure into Iceland’s dramatic interior. Today’s journey takes us to Langjökull, the country’s second-largest glacier – a vast ice cap stretching across the highlands.

Traveling by specially modified glacier vehicle, we ascend into this remote frozen landscape before stepping inside a remarkable man-made ice tunnel carved deep within the glacier itself. Walk through luminous blue corridors and discover what lies beneath centuries-old ice – a truly rare and awe-inspiring experience.

Along the way, we’ll explore surrounding lava fields and sweeping glacier landscapes, stopping for a casual lunch in Húsafell before continuing through the scenic Borgarfjörður valley. We’ll also visit Hraunfossar, a stunning lava waterfall that streams for nearly a mile through ancient volcanic rock – one of Iceland’s most unique natural wonders.

We return to Reykjavík in the late afternoon with time to relax and refresh before gathering for dinner. This evening, we’ll walk together to a local restaurant for a cozy meal, followed by the option to unwind at the hotel sauna and hot tub or enjoy a nightcap with friends.

Day Four: South Coast Waterfalls & Black Sand Shores

After breakfast, we check out and begin our scenic journey along Iceland’s dramatic South Coast — one of the most breathtaking stretches of landscape in the country. Today is a full day of exploration as we make our way toward Glacier Lagoon, with unforgettable stops along the way.

Our first highlights are two of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. At Seljalandsfoss, you’ll have the rare opportunity to walk behind the cascading falls as water tumbles down from the cliffs above. Next, we visit the powerful Skógafoss, a towering 60-meter waterfall known for its thunderous beauty and frequent rainbows.

Continuing east, we’ll visit Sólheimajökull glacier tongue, where we walk along a designated path that brings us strikingly close to the ice. We’ll also explore Reynisfjara’s famous black sand beach, framed by dramatic basalt formations and crashing Atlantic waves.

By evening, we arrive near Glacier Lagoon and settle into our hotel for the night. After dinner together, we’ll rest up for another incredible day ahead – and if the skies are clear, perhaps even keep an eye out for the Northern Lights dancing overhead.

Day Five: Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach

After breakfast, we set out for one of Iceland’s most extraordinary natural wonders – Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. As we journey through sweeping lava fields and stark black sand plains, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, building anticipation for what lies ahead.

At the lagoon, we board an amphibian boat and glide among floating icebergs that have calved from Europe’s largest glacier. The surreal blue ice, ever-shifting shapes, and quiet stillness create an unforgettable experience and incredible photo opportunities.

Just across the road, we’ll walk along the famed Diamond Beach, where fragments of glacial ice wash ashore and sparkle against the black volcanic sand like scattered crystals. Along the way, we’ll also take in views of rugged fjords and the striking silhouette of Vestrahorn mountain rising along the coast.

In the afternoon, we continue east toward Egilsstaðir, settling into our hotel for a two-night stay in this quieter, more remote region of Iceland. After dinner together, we’ll rest up – and once again, keep watch for a possible Northern Lights appearance overhead!

Highlights

  • Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon – Cruise by amphibian boat among floating icebergs freshly calved from the glacier.
  • Diamond Beach – Stroll along black sand shores scattered with shimmering glacial ice.
  • Dramatic Coastal Scenery – Travel through lava fields, fjords, and sweeping eastern landscapes.
  • East Iceland Stay – Settle into a peaceful two-night stay in the Egilsstaðir region.

Fun Fact: Some of the icebergs in Jökulsárlón are over 1,000 years old, formed from snowfall that compacted into glacial ice centuries ago.
