This trip is designed for women 50+ who are in good physical condition and enjoy an active lifestyle. Participants should be comfortable with moderate physical activities, including rafting, hiking, and camping. No prior experience is required, but a sense of adventure and a willingness to engage in outdoor activities are essential. The itinerary includes both physically active days and opportunities for relaxation, ensuring a balanced experience suitable for older adults.

As your hostesses, we understand that traveling solo can be intimidating, but rest assured, making you feel welcomed and comfortable is our top priority. Our experiences are designed for building new and lasting friendships in a warm and welcoming environment.

COME RAFT, CAMP, HIKE & SIT NEXT TO THE CAMPFIRE W/NEW FRIENDS 

Every Beatrice Bradley trip is crafted to maximize the experiences had during the trip.
The itineraries are specially made to allow time for engaging in conversation and having belly laughs with a new friend. We hope that the activities and experiences may allow you to come out of your comfort zone and to try new or unique things.
These trips are made to replicate a ‘friends get-away trip’. 

Day One:  Arrival Day – Welcome to Idaho!

As the sun began to set, a group of adventurous women converged at The Frontier Hotel, excitement buzzing in the air. Each woman, from different corners of the country, arrived with anticipation and a hint of nervousness. The evening started with a warm welcome dinner, where laughter and introductions flowed easily. Stories of past adventures and dreams of the days ahead filled the room. Later, an engaging orientation session introduced them to the wonders of the Salmon River and Hells Canyon, bonding the group with a shared enthusiasm for the journey that awaited. As the night deepened, new friendships blossomed, promising a memorable adventure together.

  • Relax and Prepare: Spend the evening relaxing at the hotel, preparing for the exciting rafting adventure ahead.

Day Two:  It’s River Time – First day on the river – running rapids, fishing and beach lunch

Get ready for an exhilarating start to your trip! Our experienced guides will greet us at the Frontier Motel at 7:00 AM Mountain Time, where you’ll receive watertight bags and containers along with a delicious breakfast from a local café. By 8:00 AM, we’ll head to the launch site in Hells Canyon, where our guides have the boats prepped for an unforgettable journey.

  • Thrilling Rapids: Feel the adrenaline rush as we tackle exhilarating rapids in Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge in North America, known for its stunning scenery and challenging waters!
  • Barton Family Homestead: Enjoy a short hike to explore the historic homestead, a glimpse into the lives of early settlers who shaped the region.
  • Fishing Opportunities: Cast your line for a chance to catch native species like the Westslope cutthroat trout and the smallmouth bass, thriving in the pristine waters of the Snake River.
  • Riverside Lunch Break: Enjoy lunch on the banks of the river, surrounded by breathtaking views and the rich history of this natural wonder.
  • Relax in Camp: Find your tent set up and enjoy downtime with hiking, fishing, or reading from our Hells Canyon Raft Library, featuring stories about the canyon’s unique wildlife and geology.
  • Campfire Stories: Savor hors d’oeuvres and dinner, then gather around the campfire for stories, s’mores, and stargazing with new friends under the expansive night sky.

As the day winds down, cozy up in your tent and dream of the adventures yet to come!

Fun Hells Canyon Fact: Did you know that Hells Canyon is home to the largest concentration of black bears in the lower 48 states? Keep your eyes peeled for these majestic creatures as you explore the area!

Day Three:  Fresh Coffee, Sizzling Bacon, and Ancient Pictographs!

waken to the delightful aroma of fresh coffee and sizzling bacon wafting through the camp! Breakfast will be served around 7:30 or 8:00 AM, giving us the energy we need for another exciting day. While the guides tidy up the kitchen and gear, we’ll have time to pack our personal belongings. As we take down our tents and clean up, we’ll be ready to hit the river just as the sun peeks over the canyon rim.

Highlights of the Day:

  • Epic Rapids: Prepare for the thrill of running the two largest rapids on the river: Wild Sheep and Granite Creek. A quick scout at each rapid gives us a sneak peek of the excitement ahead!
  • Ancient Pictographs: Explore ancient Indian pictographs that tell the stories of the area’s rich Native American history.
  • Bernard Creek Homestead: Discover the remains of the McGaffee Family’s homestead, which was inhabited from 1915 to the late 1930s. Don’t miss their unique “Hells Canyon wallpaper” made from old Saturday Evening Post magazines!
  • Sturgeon Fishing: After lunch, we can try our luck at sturgeon fishing before cruising through smaller rapids and calmer waters—perfect for testing out the inflatable kayaks!
  • Scenic Camp Arrival: Arrive at camp around 4:30 PM, where we’ll enjoy a spectacular view of “Suicide Point,” our hiking destination for the next morning.

As the day winds down, we can unwind and get ready for the adventures that await at Suicide Point!

Fun Hells Canyon Fact: Did you know that Hells Canyon was carved by the powerful Snake River over millions of years? It’s not just a stunning gorge—it’s a geological marvel that showcases millions of years of Earth’s history!

Day Four:  Summit Views and Historic Echoes 

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we’ll pack our personal gear and embark on the hike to Suicide Point. Some guides will lead the way while others stay back to pack the boats for our next adventure. Our journey today also includes a visit to Kirkwood Historic Ranch, the former home of Idaho Governor and Senator Len Jordan, where the Jordan family lived during the Great Depression. Grace Jordan, Len’s wife, is the author of Home Below Hells Canyon, capturing the essence of their lives in this remarkable place.

Highlights of the Day:

  • Suicide Point Hike: Experience breathtaking views as we hike the trail to Suicide Point, a perfect blend of adventure and scenic beauty.
  • Kirkwood Historic Ranch: Learn about the fascinating history of the ranch and its significance, including stories from Grace Jordan’s life during tough times.
  • Lunch on the Beach: Enjoy a delicious lunch on a vast beach, soaking in the sun and the beauty of Hells Canyon.
  • Pittsburg Landing: Arrive at Pittsburg Landing, the take-out for our 34-mile trip. Here, some 3-day guests may disembark, but our adventure continues down the river!
  • Pleasant Valley: Enter the stunning Pleasant Valley, where the canyon narrows dramatically, creating a picturesque backdrop for our camping spot.
  • Evening Fishing: Settle into camp and enjoy a peaceful evening fishing for sturgeon as the river flows calmly in front of our site.
  • Stargazing: Each tent has a tarp spread out in front, providing the perfect spot to pull out our pads and sleep under the stars, making for a magical night of storytelling and wonder.

As we wind down from the day’s adventures, we’ll cherish the memories made and the stunning views above us!

Fun Hells Canyon Fact: Hells Canyon is home to more than 400 species of animals, including deer, elk, and bighorn sheep. This rich biodiversity makes the canyon a fantastic destination for wildlife enthusiasts!

Day Five: Historic Crossing and Scenic Confluences! 

After breakfast, we’ll pack up our personal gear and hit the water for another exciting day. Our first stop is the historic site of the massacre at China Creek, where Chinese miners were tragically killed, and a hidden treasure of gold was never found.

Highlights of the Day:

  • China Creek: Visit the somber site of the Chinese miners’ massacre, surrounded by the mystery of a lost gold cache.
  • Chief Joseph’s Crossing: Around lunchtime, we’ll reach the site where Nez Perce Chief Joseph and his people crossed the river in 1877, using horsehide rafts pulled by swimming horses to transport their families, belongings, and livestock.
  • Imnaha River: Explore the Imnaha River and enjoy a short, scenic hike to the abandoned Mountain Chief Mine Tunnel, immersing ourselves in the region’s mining history.
  • Snake and Salmon Rivers Confluence: Witness the dramatic confluence of the Snake and Salmon Rivers, where the river’s volume doubles—a truly impressive sight. We’ll aim to camp in this breathtaking area.
  • Beach Time and Relaxation: Embrace “River Time” with leisurely activities on the beach, enjoying the shade, and savoring another evening of fun and laughter echoing off the canyon walls.

As the day winds down, we’ll reflect on the incredible history and stunning scenery we’ve experienced, making the most of our final moments in this majestic canyon.

Fun Hells Canyon Fact: The Snake River’s confluence with the Salmon River is not only a stunning natural feature but also a critical area for salmon migration, supporting diverse fish populations that are vital to the region’s ecosystem!

Day Six:  Hells Canyon, Big Horn Sheep, and Final Goodbye to the River.

Our final day on the river is filled with stunning scenery and a touch of adventure as the canyon opens up to reveal grassy mountainsides. We’ll keep an eye out for Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep and take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve experienced together.

Highlights of the Day:

  • Scenic River Stretch: Enjoy the tranquil beauty of the river’s final stretches, with small rapids and expansive views of grassy mountainsides.
  • Wildlife Spotting: Look for Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep as we navigate this picturesque section of the river.
  • Rafting and Motor Assistance: Depending on the river flow, we may join rafts together and use a quiet outboard motor to cover some of today’s miles, making for a smooth and scenic ride.
  • Final Beach Lunch: Stop on a beach for a final group lunch and photo session. Share contact details and plan a reunion trip for next season.
  • Arrival at Heller Bar: Conclude our adventure at Heller Bar, where we’ll say our goodbyes to our guides and the river reflecting on the amazing memories made.

After a quick 45-minute ride back to Lewiston, we’ll have time for a hot shower and a change of clothes.

Day Seven:  Group Breakfast and New Friend Goodbye Hugs!

We will grab a group breakfast at the hotel and enjoy some last-minute photo-sharing before we head to the airport!
