Newport’s Gilded Age mansions were built long before elevators, so stairs are part of the experience, and the Cliff Walk includes some uneven paths and gentle inclines. But it’s all manageable—and honestly, part of what makes the experience feel so real and immersive.
This isn’t about pushing—it’s about showing up, enjoying the moment, and knowing you’re supported the entire time.

Day One: A Coastal Arrival and a Change in Pace
Welcome to Newport. This is where it begins.
Arrive, settle in, and give yourself a minute. The salt air, the sound of the Atlantic working against the rocks, and the particular feeling of walking into a town that has been somewhere important for nearly four hundred years.
The Newport Beach Hotel & Suites sits on water twice over. On one side the Atlantic rolls straight into Easton’s Beach, with the Gilded Age mansions rising along the Cliff Walk in the distance. Turn around and it all goes quiet. Calm water, low light, and a slower rhythm than the one you arrived with.
Tonight is not about doing more. It is about arriving well.
Walk the shoreline together and feel the pace change. Newport does not work very hard to impress anyone, which is exactly why it does. The town gives itself up slowly, and this first evening sets the tone for the whole week.
This is your first breath of it. The first moment of knowing you were right to come.

Fun Fact 🎉
The Cliff Walk is one of the only places in America where a public path runs along the back lawns of the country’s grandest houses. The families who built those houses spent decades trying to close it and never managed it, which is why you get to walk it at all.
Day Two: Rosecliff, Belcourt & The Breakers
Wake up beachfront with the Atlantic outside your window. Breakfast is at the hotel, and there is time before the day begins for an early walk on the sand while the beach is still quiet.
Then the day moves to Bellevue Avenue, where the Gilded Age built its summer addresses one after another.
Your first stop is Rosecliff, built in 1902 for Nevada silver heiress Tessie Oelrichs and modeled on the Grand Trianon at Versailles. It holds the largest ballroom in Newport. Every room in the house was designed around the parties she intended to throw in it.
Lunch is tea service at the Chinese Tea House, set on the lawn above the water. Alva Vanderbilt had it built in 1914 as her own private pavilion, and she used it to host Votes for Women rallies on her own back lawn.
In the afternoon you tour Belcourt, the 1894 estate Richard Morris Hunt designed for Oliver Belmont. Sixty rooms, and a personality unlike anything else on the avenue. Alva married Belmont after her divorce and moved here from Marble House, so the story you started at tea finishes in this house.
Tonight, the house opens for you alone.
Your private tour of The Breakers takes place after the doors close to the public. Seventy rooms built for Cornelius Vanderbilt II, no rope lines, no crowd, and the Great Hall in the last of the evening light.
Day Two Highlights

Fun Fact 🎉
Oliver Belmont gave the entire ground floor of Belcourt to his horses. Carriage rooms and stables were built right into the house, and the story told in Newport ever since is that the horses slept on white linen sheets.
Day Three: Marble House, Sailing Newport Harbor & the White Horse Tavern
An early start this morning, and worth every minute of it. Breakfast is served before the sun is fully up, and you are through the gates on Bellevue Avenue before the rest of Newport has finished its coffee.
Your private guided tour of Marble House begins at eight, in a house with nobody else in it. Built in 1892 for William K. Vanderbilt, it took over 500,000 cubic feet of white marble and set a standard the rest of the avenue spent the next decade chasing. Your guide walks you through the Gold Room, the dining room, and the story of Alva Vanderbilt, who took the house in her divorce and used it to host Votes for Women rallies on the lawn.
By late morning you trade marble for salt air.
At eleven you board at Bowen’s Wharf for a sail on Newport Harbor. Wide decks, benches with backrests, and the whole coastline from the water. You see the mansions the way the families who built them meant them to be seen, which is from a boat, looking up.
Back on land, the afternoon belongs to Bowen’s Wharf. It has been a working waterfront since the 1760s, and today it holds more than thirty shops, galleries, and places to sit down. Cobblestones underfoot, boats coming in and out, and no schedule to keep.
Tonight, the experience turns historic.
Dinner is at the White Horse Tavern, America’s oldest operating tavern, serving since 1673. Low ceilings, wide floorboards, and candlelight. Refined, grounded, and distinctly Newport.
Day Three Highlights
- Early breakfast at the hotel before the day begins
- Private guided tour of Marble House at eight in the morning, before it opens to anyone else
- See the 500,000 cubic feet of white marble that changed Newport
- Hear how Alva Vanderbilt kept the house and turned its lawn into a suffrage stage
- Late morning sail on Newport Harbor, departing from Bowen’s Wharf
- View the Gilded Age coastline from the water, the way it was built to be seen
- Explore Bowen’s Wharf with new friends, a working waterfront since the 1760s
- Over thirty shops, galleries, and harbor views within a few hundred yards
- Dinner at the historic White Horse Tavern, serving since 1673

Marble House was a birthday present. William K. Vanderbilt gave it to Alva for her thirty-ninth, and she divorced him three years later and kept the house. She then used its lawn to host Votes for Women rallies, which is very likely not what he had in mind.
Day Four: Ocean Drive, Doris Duke’s Rough Point & a Newport Food Tour
Wake up beachfront and take a relaxed breakfast overlooking the water, with the whole day still ahead of you.
The morning begins in the open air. You set out along Ocean Drive in an open-air touring cart, low and slow, with nothing between you and the coastline. Ten miles of rocky shore, crashing surf, and grand estates set back behind the hedgerows. Bring a scarf. The wind off the Atlantic is part of the experience.
Then Rough Point, and the most personal house of the week.
Built in 1887 as a Vanderbilt summer cottage, Rough Point was bought by tobacco magnate James Buchanan Duke in 1922 and became the home of his daughter Doris, who inherited it at twelve and kept it for the rest of her life. It has been preserved as she actually lived in it, right down to the furniture where she left it.
Your private tour takes you into her fashion collection.
Doris Duke dressed for a life almost nobody else was living, and she never once dressed to please a room. Your guide brings you into the Fashion Gallery, a former guest room in the East Wing that stayed closed to visitors until 2025, where her clothes are shown alongside the stories of the women who made them. Christian Dior and Balenciaga hang near Madame Grès, Sybil Connolly, Tina Leser, and Mary McFadden. There is the gown she wore to the 1981 Met Gala. There are the caftans and sundresses she wore at home with nobody watching. There is a Bangkok silk house she loved so much that she used its fabric for her dresses and for the curtains in her own bedroom.
And there is the detail that tells you everything. She found one pair of pointy-toed flats she liked, and she bought more than twenty pairs, in nearly every color they made. A woman who could have owned anything decided what she wanted and stopped looking.
Tonight, you eat your way through the city.
The Rhode Island Red Food Tour takes you off the tourist path and into Newport’s own neighborhoods, with six stops at independent kitchens along the way. You meet the people who run them, you hear the history and the architecture of the streets you are walking, and you taste what Rhode Island actually eats. Clear clam chowder, not the white kind. Clam cakes. Whatever the kitchen is proud of that night. It is dinner, eaten slowly, in six different rooms, with the group.

Doris Duke kept two Bactrian camels named Princess and Baby on the lawn at Rough Point. They were a gift, they lived there for years, and by all accounts their favorite thing in the world was graham crackers.
Day Five: Until We Meet Again
This is not goodbye. It is until we meet again.
Wake for one last morning by the water. The Atlantic is familiar now, which it was not five days ago. There is time for a final coffee, one more look down the coastline, and a minute to let the week settle before you go.
You leave Newport with more than photographs.
You leave with the Gilded Age in your head. The houses, the families, the marble and the money, and the women who lived at the center of all of it and rarely got to tell the story themselves. You walked their halls. You ate at their tables. You stood on their lawns and looked out at the same ocean they did.
And you leave with the women you came here with. Most of them were strangers on Sunday. They are not strangers now.
This was not a getaway.
It was history. It was glamour. It was Newport.
And it will be here when you come back.

The entire Newport social season lasted about six weeks. Those houses, with their marble halls and ballrooms and staffs of dozens, sat quiet the rest of the year. Everything you saw this week was built to be lived in for six weeks of summer, and it was worth every dollar to the people who built it.

What if i want to skip an activity? - How important is it to be on time?
You are never required to do all activities! Sometimes you need a little downtime, and you’re welcome to skip an activity if you'd prefer to rest or recharge. Just keep our hosts in the loop.
Being on time is also very important. We run a thoughtful schedule to make sure everyone gets the most out of each day. Out of respect for your fellow travelers and our guides, we ask that you arrive on time and ready to roll so we can keep the adventure smooth and stress-free for all!

They are not personal assistants or luggage porters—they are your fellow travelers, dedicated to making this trip unforgettable for everyone.
How does tipping work?
We take care of all standard tips for included meals, local guides, and drivers—so you don’t need to worry about those details.
If you’d like to show appreciation to your Beatrice Bradley host, gratuities are always welcome but never expected. A general guideline is $5–$10 per day, per host, depending on your experience.
