Every Beatrice Bradley trip is crafted to maximize the experiences had during the trip.
The itineraries are specially made to allow time for engaging in conversation and having belly laughs with a new friend. We hope that the activities and experiences may allow you to come out of your comfort zone and to try new or unique things.
These trips are made to replicate a ‘friends get-away trip’. 

Overall Trip Highlights

• Four nights at The Brown Hotel, a Georgian Revival landmark past its centennial, unpacked once, with no hotel changes and no 6:00 AM lobby calls.
• A private food tour with six tastings, booked for our group alone rather than shared with a dozen strangers.
• Muth’s Candies, hand rolling Modjeskas at 630 East Market since 1921, still run by the Muth family, now in its third and fourth generations.
• The hotel’s own famous turkey and bacon dish, eaten in the building where it was invented, a floor below our rooms.
• A reserved clubhouse box at Churchill Downs for a September race card, the whole group seated together with the track in front of us.
• The Kentucky Derby Museum and a guided tour of the track and grounds, so we understand the racing before we sit down to watch it.
• Wagner’s Pharmacy, the counter across from the Churchill Downs backside where trainers and exercise riders have taken breakfast for generations.
• Hermitage Farm in Goshen, a working thoroughbred operation in Oldham County, where the horses come from before they are famous.
• Supper aboard the Belle of Louisville, a National Historic Landmark built in 1914 and the last authentic steamboat of the packet boat era.
• A guided walk through Old Louisville, the largest collection of restored Victorian homes in the country, more than forty blocks of it.
• Two Beatrice Bradley hostesses, who meet every flight at baggage claim and stay through the last goodbye at departures.

Day One: We Arrive, and the South Starts Being Southern

The first night is the easiest night of the trip, and that is entirely on purpose.

A Beatrice Bradley hostess is standing at baggage claim, whatever time the plane lands. Flights come in across the whole afternoon, so one hostess holds the airport and the other holds the hotel, and the woman who arrives last is met exactly as warmly as the woman who arrived at ten in the morning.

The transfer downtown takes about a quarter of an hour. Then the lobby of The Brown does most of the talking: marble underfoot, chandeliers overhead, and a staircase built for making an entrance on. A Louisville icon since 1923, it has hosted presidents, celebrities and Derby royalty, and it is still the address this city gives its guests.

Rooms are ready, bags go up, and the rest of the afternoon is ours to unpack for the whole week, take a long bath, or go down and sit in that lobby watching Louisville walk through it.

Evening opens with a welcome happy hour, which is mostly an excuse for a dozen women to learn each other’s names before anybody has to make dinner conversation. Dinner is downstairs in the hotel, Southern and unhurried, close enough that a delayed flight can slide into her seat between courses without a fuss being made. Afterwards the Lobby Bar stays open under the chandeliers for whoever has more to say, and with two hostesses on hand, going up early costs nothing.

By the end of the night, nobody at that table is a stranger.

Day Two: Victorian Mansions, Horse Country and Supper on the River

Three completely different Kentuckys in one day, and we finish on the water.

The morning belongs to Old Louisville, which is not a preserved museum district but a neighborhood people live in, and the largest collection of restored Victorian homes anywhere in the country. More than forty blocks of it. A guide walks us through St. James Court and along Millionaires Row, past Central Park, laid out by Frederick Law Olmsted of Central Park in New York, and explains how bourbon money and tobacco money turned into all this stonework and stained glass. The sidewalks are flat, the trees are old, and the pace is conversational the whole way.

After lunch we head northeast into Oldham County, to Hermitage Farm in Goshen. This is working horse country: white fence, rolling green, a thoroughbred operation with breeding, boarding and racing syndicates all happening on the property. This is the part nobody puts on television. The horses in tomorrow’s race were standing in a field like this one a few years ago, and that is where the whole state starts to make sense.

The evening is on the water. We board the Belle of Louisville, built in 1914, the only authentic steamboat left from the great packet boat era and still running under her own steam. Supper is served aboard as the paddlewheel turns us out onto the Ohio, and the lights of the city come up along the bank while we are eating.

Day Three: Louisville Icons, Bluegrass Beauty & Bourbon Elegance

Today blends three Kentucky classics — America’s favorite pastime, world-famous bourbon, and the graceful beauty of thoroughbred horses — all experienced in a relaxed, welcoming, and delightfully social way.

Your morning begins at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, where you’ll enjoy a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how the legendary bats are crafted for Major League Baseball. From massive tree trunks to perfectly polished maple and ash bats, this interactive tour offers plenty of fun surprises.

Next, you’ll head to one of Louisville’s most stylish distilleries: Angel’s Envy.

Set along the waterfront in a beautifully designed space, this boutique bourbon experience focuses on craftsmanship, aging techniques, and flavor. You’ll discover what makes Kentucky bourbon so special, explore the finishing process that gives Angel’s Envy its signature smoothness, and enjoy a guided tasting designed to be relaxed, social, and enjoyable rather than technical.

This evening, you’ll dine together at Jack Fry’s, a Louisville institution since 1933 known for its amazing atmosphere, vintage décor, impeccable service, and outstanding Southern-inspired cuisine. It’s exactly the kind of place locals recommend — and the perfect setting to linger over conversation and toast another wonderful day.

Day Four: Race Day at Churchill Downs

Brunch at Wagner’s Pharmacy, open across the street from Churchill Downs since 1922 and still where the horsemen eat. Mimosas, a counter that has not changed much, and no reason to rush.

The Kentucky Derby Museum, the Greatest Race film, and a guided tour of the track and grounds.

 Later in the day, you’ll return to The Brown Hotel to freshen up before heading out for one final evening together.

A farewell dinner at a Louisville table, where we toast new friendships and savor one last taste of Kentucky hospitality.

As the final day of your Kentucky adventure dawns, the group gathers for one last hearty breakfast. There’s a shared sense of fulfillment and friendship and reminisce over the week’s shared experiences. Depart for the Muhammad Ali International Airport, where you bid farewell to your travel companions, promising to keep in touch. As you board your flight, you carry with you not just souvenirs, but also cherished memories, lasting friendships and a newfound love for the historic city of Louisville.
